Chapter 6: I Seem to Like You Even More
When Zhuang Jiang woke up.
Qiansui was lying prone on her bed, gently licking her palm.
Perhaps sensing that she had awakened, it lifted its head, looking at her without dodging or hiding, letting out a soft "Meow."
Zhuang Jiang chuckled softly, then reached out to press gently against its body, speaking to it: "This is the most peaceful sleep I've had. Where is your master?"
Qiansui naturally couldn't speak, yet it seemed to understand her words; with almost human-like intelligence, it let out another soft "Meow" toward the door.
"Is he up?"
Zhuang Jiang picked it up and rose, walking out the door barefoot.
Tang Qing’s apartment was just as he said—it wasn't large, but the layout was excellent. On the open bookshelves, rows upon rows of books were neatly arranged, with two beanbag chairs placed nearby. By the floor-to-ceiling window, a large wool rug covered the floor, and looking out, one could see the boundless sea.
"Did you sleep well?"
Zhuang Jiang followed the sound of the voice and saw Tang Qing dressed in loungewear, carrying two plates as he walked toward her...
She gave a soft "Mhm," stroking Qiansui’s fur as she replied: "Very well."
Tang Qing placed the plates on the table, noticed her bare feet, and turned back to retrieve a pair of slippers.
Coming back to her, he picked her up and placed her on the sofa before kneeling down: "Lift your feet."
Zhuang Jiang watched his actions, feeling a strange sensation in her heart, yet she still followed his instructions and lifted her feet, defending herself: "It's not cold."
Tang Qing knelt on one knee, his hand covering the top of her foot, rubbing it gently before looking up at her: "And you still say it's not cold?"
Zhuang Jiang’s expression showed a rare trace of awkwardness. She looked away but still muttered: "It’s alright."
"Jiangjiang, you really don't know how to take care of yourself."
Tang Qing’s voice held a hint of helplessness. Once he had rubbed her feet warm, he put the slippers on her.
Zhuang Jiang looked at him, her hand continuing to stroke Qiansui’s fur, and said: "Won't Qingqing take care of me?"
Since you will take care of me, why should I take care of myself?
Tang Qing caught the underlying meaning in her words, looked up at her, and finally burst into laughter.
He reached out to brace himself on the sofa, leaned in, and lightly nipped her earlobe, whispering: "Then Jiangjiang has to be good. If Jiangjiang isn't good, I'll do more than just carry you."
Zhuang Jiang let out an "Oh." She lowered her head and bit his lower lip first: "Does Qingqing plan to treat me like this?"
After saying this, she lightly patted Qiansui.
Qiansui was very obedient; it jumped out of her lap and went elsewhere to play.
Zhuang Jiang did not let go of Tang Qing. Instead, she took the opportunity to cup his chin, sticking out her small tongue to lick the corners of his lips, her voice enchanting: "Or like this?"
Tang Qing’s voice grew somewhat hoarse: "Jiangjiang..."
He looked at her, his heart racing and his earlobes turning slightly red. His hands hung in mid-air, unsure whether to push away or pull closer.
Zhuang Jiang lowered her head, lightly biting Tang Qing’s bobbing Adam's apple. The look in her slightly raised eyes held an unhideable air of flirtatious charm: "Didn't Qingqing want to bully me?"
"Mhm?"
Tang Qing gripped her waist, stopping her from moving closer.
He looked at her, breathing somewhat heavily, with a few beads of sweat on his forehead.
"Jiangjiang..."
"No more fooling around from now on."
After saying this, he left her with one sentence: "Go wash up first. Breakfast will be ready soon."
He turned and walked away.
"Qingqing, you're blushing."
Zhuang Jiang watched him pause for a moment before fleeing in a panic.
She leaned back against a throw pillow and laughed out loud... Qiansui followed the sound and curled up beside her.
Zhuang Jiang reached out to massage it gently: "Your master is truly prone to shyness."
"Meow."
Hearing its response, Zhuang Jiang laughed even more joyfully: "You think so too."
After the two finished breakfast, they went downstairs for a stroll together, then leisurely walked to the supermarket at the entrance of the complex to buy some food and daily necessities.
Perhaps because Tang Qing was a regular there, the cashier recognized him. Seeing Zhuang Jiang by his side, the cashier was momentarily surprised before saying with a beaming smile: "Your girlfriend is very beautiful. You're a lucky young man!"
Tang Qing also smiled. He looked sideways at Zhuang Jiang and agreed wholeheartedly: "I think so too."
Zhuang Jiang met his smiling eyes and smiled as well.
Once the bill was settled, the two nodded to the cashier and walked out with their fingers interlaced.
On the way.
Due to their appearances, they drew many glances, and some people even started taking photos on the side.
Tang Qing didn't mind, and Zhuang Jiang was used to it...
The two walked forward without looking aside. Zhuang Jiang glanced at what he was carrying and asked: "What’s for lunch?"
"Yuxiang Eggplant, chestnuts with braised chicken..."
Tang Qing looked down at her and smiled: "And maybe a Shepherd's Purse and Tofu soup, how does that sound?"
"Good."
Zhuang Jiang had never been picky about food. In the early years, when filming in deep mountains and old forests, the boxed lunches were cold and unappetizing, yet she had eaten them all.
She looked up at him: "I think I should be able to help you out as a sous-chef."
The smile in Tang Qing’s eyes deepened.
He looked at her and responded softly: "I couldn't ask for more."
However, the facts soon informed Zhuang Jiang.
Her vegetable-cutting skills truly couldn't compare to the genius of the Medical School standing before her.
She looked at the two plates of ingredients—one was hers, the other was Tang Qing’s.
Zhuang Jiang propped her hand against her forehead, feeling a touch of defeat for the first time.
She looked at him: "I think I’d better not ruin your culinary skills."
Tang Qing looked at her and laughed softly: "I actually prefer Jiangjiang's. It's unrestrained and casual; every bit of it is wonderful."
Zhuang Jiang felt a bit helpless: "This is cooking."
"Cooking is the same."
"Because it was done by Jiangjiang, everything about it is good."
After saying this, Tang Qing took her plate of eggplant: "Be good. Go out and set the table first; the kitchen is full of oily smoke."
Zhuang Jiang gave a soft "Mhm," picked up the bowls and chopsticks, and walked out.
Then, she heard the sounds of cooking coming from the kitchen. Her movements paused for a second... She hadn't heard such sounds in a long time. These ordinary sounds actually caused her heart to flutter.
Zhuang Jiang smiled softly. She finished setting the table and walked back toward the kitchen.
Then, she leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed and looked inside—
Tang Qing’s hands were very slender, Tang Qing was very tall, Tang Qing had a great physique, Tang Qing... looked absolutely wonderful while holding the wooden spatula and stir-frying.
Watching him and thinking these thoughts, the smile on Zhuang Jiang’s face grew even thicker.
She walked forward and reached out to wrap her arms around his waist.
Tang Qing’s body stiffened for a moment before he relaxed, looking down at the pair of hands around his waist and asking: "What’s wrong?"
"Hungry."
Tang Qing let out a chuckle: "It’s almost ready. There’s food outside too, go grab a snack first."
"Qingqing."
"Mhm?"
Zhuang Jiang rested her head against his back: "I seem to... like you even more now."
