They were able to pass the Miyabi-kai selection meeting.

Sango returned to her private room feeling excited and great. She was eager to give Hongyu the happy news.

When she opened the door to the room, tanuki greeted her.

"I'm home now."

"Kuun"

Waving its tail and looking up at Sango. It lifted its fluffy body and rubbed her cheek.

"I have some good news today."

"Kuun, Kuun"

Unable to contain his joy, she talked to the tanuki.

The result of repeated efforts paid off. She couldn't be happier.

Hongyu didn't seem to be in the living room. The moment she saw the door to the office, Hongyu came out from inside.

"Hongyu!"

She ran towards him, holding the raccoon dog.

“Um, thank you for your hard work.”

"Have you finished your work?"

"Well."

At this point, a maid came and prepared tea and sweets. It's a manju filled with fragrant marika tea and chestnut filling. Nuts were prepared for the tanuki.

"Mr. Tanuki, I'll peel the fruit for you."

"Kuun!"

It seemed like the raccoon dog was loved by the maid and was well cared for.

Sango watched the scene with narrowed eyes, but when she felt Hongyu's gaze on her, she came to her senses.

“Ah, uh, yeah, there was something I wanted to report.”

At this point, she felt thirsty and drank some tea. After taking a deep breath, she reported the results of the selection meeting.

"So, there was a selection meeting today, and I passed."

She expected him to treat her coldly like usual, but that wasn't the case, Hongyu smiled softly.

“I see, that was good.”

"Oh, yes"

Sango's face turned red at the sudden gentle smile.

"I passed the exam because of your guidance. Also, thanks to Konkon and Reimi-san's hard work."

"You've been working hard too. I guess that's the result."

"Oh, thank you very much"

She didn't expect to be praised, so she felt embarrassed.

Even though Hongyu received nothing in return, he enthusiastically taught her. No matter how many times she thanked him, it would not be enough.

“Come to think of it, why were you so desperate?”

The Miyabi-kai was held several times a year. However, the amount of power that Sango put into it was something to behold.

Hongyu seemed to have doubts.

“That’s because I was thinking that I would like to receive a hanafuda from Empress Princess.”

"Is there something you want?"

"Yes"

Hongyu said, “If there was something you wanted, you should have just told me.”

Unlike the ladies-in-waiting, it seemed that Hongyu, who was a house official, could have items prepared for him if he needed them. However, what Sango wanted was not something that could be obtained easily.

“What on earth do you want?”

"Well, when I parted ways with the master I was serving, I was given a sword, but it was confiscated..."

“Maybe you can exchange it for Hanafuda. To do that, I have to appear at the Miyabi-kai and give my best performance.”

Since that incident, Sango had been training hard.

The sword given to him by the prince was Sango's only connection to her country.

When she looked up, she met Hongyu's eyes.

His calm face from earlier had completely changed, and now he had a grim expression on his face.

"Unfortunately, court officials are not allowed to wear or carry swords."

She was shocked, but at the same time, she felt a sense of resignation and disappointment as if that was the case after all.

She wondered maybe that was why it was confiscated.

They must have thought that the beautiful sword was too good for her.

"Why do you insist on that sword?"

Hongyu still didn't change his stiff expression. He spoke to Sango accusingly.

"That's the sword my master gave me..."

“Is it an important item?”

Sango nodded.

He was asking something unexpected and unnecessary.

“No way, that master and you are done. You must have been there, right?”

Done?

That meant that they had a deep relationship. Even the insensitive Sango could understand the meaning.

"It's not easy to protect someone with your life. Could it be that you are lovers?"

“No, that’s not it!”

She hurriedly deny it. There was no such relationship with Prince Mericle.

"We were never in a relationship like that. I did receive an offer of marriage once, but I declined, thinking it was too much."

"What!? Can people like that get married in your country?"

“Is there a difference in status between your people?”

It was not uncommon for members of the earl family to marry members of the royal family, but it was not common.

The Sango family was a prestigious family with a long history, and there must have been some who married into the royal family.

"Yes, that's true. However, it's not a very common story..."

Hongyu was at a loss for words, as if that was impossible in Karetsu.

"I admired you, but I didn't have any personal feelings for you."

He was a strict person, but also a kind person.

However, he had never thought of her as a member of the opposite sex.

"You just don't realize that."

"I see. So you were practicing for the sword your master gave you?"

Hongyu's tone became more and more violent and harsh.

"Even though you have an ulterior motive, I cooperated without knowing it. That's ridiculous."

“Hongyu.”

Hongyu stood up and quickly headed to his office. Sango ran after him, but the door slammed shut on her.

Even if she went into the room and made excuses, she would only make him angry.

"Hongyu, I'm sorry."

She realized it now. She said he had forgotten about the sword until today.

It was fun to see her erhu improved. It was heartwarming to watch Konkon and Reimi, who weren't getting along well, becoming friends. Above all, she was happy to see Hongyu's enthusiastic guidance.

Gradually, she began to want Hongyu to acknowledge and praise her, so she worked hard every day.

Sango's purpose had suddenly changed.

However, it would be pointless to explain it now.

Once Hongyu had gotten angry, it was difficult to get out of his bad mood. Time would tell, she had to wait

“Yes, I have no choice but to wait.”

"Kuun"

The raccoon dog came and snuggled up to Sango to encourage her.

"Thank you, Tanuki."

She patted it's  head, but her heart was restless.

Let's cool down a little.

Sango asked Tanuki to stay at home and leave the room.

Walking through the seraglio in the dim night.

There was no sign of anyone around. When she looked up through the lattice window, she saw a cloudy moon floating in the sky.

In this country, even the brightest star was too blurry to see.

It would be impossible to see the comet that Konkon said she wanted to see before.

In the first place, even in countries where you could see stars, there were almost no observations of comets.

While thinking about that, she proceeded down the hallway.

She exited from the portico into the courtyard.

It was windy and cool tonight. She regretted that she should have put on her jacket.

There was a tall tree, so she climbed it and sat on the thick branch.

When she was little, she used to play by climbing trees.

As she breathed in the clear air of the place surrounded by trees, her uneasiness was calmed down a little. It was just a little bit.

Prince Mericle also got in to bad mood sometimes due to Sango's comments.

There was a time when Sango was invited to an evening party by the prince. She thought she was definitely her bodyguard, but to her surprise, she was asked to wear her dress and accompanied him.

She thought it was a joke and brushed it off, but he got mad and didn't speak to her for a month.

She thought about it as she relived that event. She was sure there was something insensitive about her.

All she could do was wait for him to forgive her.

She took a deep breath and exhaled. Her mood changed. She had no choice but to assume that.

She didn't want to worry Hongyu, so she decided to go back to the room.

She jumped down from the tree.

“Kyaa!!”

As soon as she landed, she heard a woman's scream.

The voice sounded like Princess Hoshi's.
