Chapter 154: Have You Thought It Through? There's No Going Back.
Shen Jinghe was inwardly freaking out, too.
After all, this was the very first time in his life seeing such a massive brown bear in the wild! When he visited the zoo in the past, either the bears were locked behind iron bars, or the humans were trapped inside armored cage vehicles.
On the surface, however, Shen Jinghe maintained a remarkably calm composure.
"That bear probably had its hibernation interrupted after getting startled by something. Otherwise, why do you think the production team handed us those bear-repellent horns?"
Ever since they began "cohabiting," the two brothers had slowly begun to break their silence. Although their conversations were still mostly laced with sharp jabs, things were significantly better than before.
As for the brothers' dynamic, the viewers in the livestream room were already beyond satisfied, considering how meagerly they had been fed in the past. Even if a few individual fans tried to pick a fight, they would quickly be shut down.
And the person shutting down those toxic fans arguing over Shen Jinghe and Shen Jingchuan was none other than Su Yang, who spent every single day glued to her children's livestream feeds.
Originally, Su Yang had tuned in to the second season of the show purely for Wen Yan. Before filming started, she had heard from Wen Yan that her fourth son wouldn't be participating.
Yet, who could have guessed that on day one, Su Yang not only spotted her fourth son, Shen Jingchuan, in the show's livestream, but immediately after, she saw her second son, Shen Jinghe, as well!
Even more dramatically, after a series of twists and turns during the team selection, her two sons, who hadn't been able to stand each other for over a decade, were actually assigned to the exact same team!
This was something she wouldn't have dared dream of in her wildest fantasies! Those two stubborn mules, who could never be brought together under normal circumstances, were now "willingly" spending thirty days together around the clock all because of a variety show!
She simply postponed all her studio work for a month, keeping her sleep schedule completely inverted to monitor the livestream day and night. She registered an alt account using a new phone number, stepping in to fiercely counter anyone she saw saying bad things about her son or daughter.
After several days of pulling all-nighters, Su Yang—a fifty-year-old middle-aged woman, found herself unable to keep up physically. So, she simply bought a flight ticket and flew straight to Country N, where her children were located.
This way, her time zone was synchronized, making watching the livestream a much lighter and happier experience.
She was truly delighted because she could tell that her second and fourth sons didn't actually hate each other; both of them were just sharp-tongued with soft hearts underneath. This show was a fantastic opportunity for the brothers to reconcile!
Su Yang didn't favor one over the other either. She kept two devices running 24/7—one to watch her sons, and the other to watch her daughter.
In Wen Yan's livestream room, she used a different alt account with the display name "Yan Yan's Little Baby."
In fact, just three days into the broadcast, the account "Yan Yan's Little Baby" had already become famous in Wen Yan's channel. The reason for its fame was simple: sheer wealth.
Basically, whenever there was a close-up shot of Wen Yan, Su Yang would use her alt account to shower her with Crowns.
The Crown was a high-value gift on this streaming platform. Once gifted, the Crown would automatically be "placed" on the head of the streamer on screen. Su Yang felt that out of all the props, only this one was the prettiest and most fitting for her Yan Yan, so whenever a close-up of Wen Yan appeared, she would just keep gifting non-stop.
However, as temperatures on the snow-capped mountain continued to drop, issues began to arise even for the team of Wen Yan and Jiang Wanwan, who had been performing the most consistently.
Mainly, the snow was simply too deep. Gradually, they had no way of stepping outside at all.
Even though the two of them huddled around the fire to warm themselves the moment they entered the cabin, both of them still developed frostbite on their feet. Not to mention leaving the camp for long periods to forage, they had no choice but to rely on their existing food reserves.
However, only consuming without replenishing was ultimately not a sustainable long-term solution.
If things were this difficult for the two of them, JingHao and the Shen brothers' team would only have an even tougher time.
Following the daytime encounter where Shen Jingchuan and Shen Jinghe spotted the brown bear, their campsite actually received a visit from the bear at night as well.
When the two brothers woke up the next morning and saw the chaotic bear paw prints outside their small cabin, a shared thought simultaneously crossed their minds: they had to relocate. They couldn't stay here any longer.
Meanwhile, after days of deliberation, JingHao finally dialed the production team's phone number.
Receiving his call didn't come as much of a surprise to the crew.
"So, are you planning to withdraw?"
Jing Hao's answer, however, was a negative one. "No, I'm not withdrawing. Don't forget I drew a white ball during the draft, and I still have a tool card in my possession. I want to use my card."
"What is your tool card?"
"Camp Swap."
"Are you sure you want to use the 'Camp Swap' tool card at this moment?"
Jing Hao hadn't wanted to make this choice either, but he was truly out of options.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Then please wait where you are. We will send someone over immediately."
After ending the call with the crew, Jing Hao began talking to himself, or perhaps, explaining to the audience.
"I know doing this is a bit selfish because the resources here are truly too poor, and because I'm all on my own right now. If Xu He were still here, I think I probably wouldn't have used this tool card until the end.
"I can show you all, the text on this slip says the swap is random. I actually don't know who I'll end up swapping with either. But no matter who it is, I don't think their situation could be any worse than my team's."
Bullet Comments:
[How should I put it... if the team you swap with happens to have great resources, they're going to feel super annoyed. But I actually feel like this is where the show gets real. People are naturally like this.]
[Yeah, these were options created by the production team. Since it already existed from the start, whatever choice he makes is within the rules.]
[Heh, selfishness can really be glammed up by you fans. So what if it's a rule set by the crew? The crew never said the tool card HAD to be used; he could've just not used it.]
[Shen Jinghe has a tool card in hand too, you know. Even with his situation with Alex being like that, I didn't see him use his tool card.]
[Speechless. Not using it now means he won't use it later? Maybe he plans to save it for a huge move on the final day!]
[Exactly! At the very beginning, Wen Yan used a Teammate Swap tool card, too. How come I didn't see you guys calling her selfish back then? Didn't she also swap away a teammate someone else had chosen? What if the original pair was forcibly torn apart by her?]
[...Uh, what you're saying makes zero sense. I suspect you're a fake fan. You act like you watched it, but it's like you didn't watch it at all. Shen Jinghe and Jiang Wanwan were meeting for the very first time, what do you mean 'forcibly torn apart by Wen Yan'? I've really had enough of this.]
Amidst the heated arguments flooding the bullet screen, Jing Hao began packing up his belongings in the cabin.
Before long, the production staff arrived.
"You know that your swap is random, right? You cannot specify a team."
Jing Hao nodded. "I know."
"Alright. We prepared the props on our way here. In here are the index numbers for the other three teams. Whichever team you draw, you will swap with them.
There's no going back once drawn. Have you thought it through?"
"Mm, I've thought it through."
Trusting his initial gut feeling, Jing Hao selected a crumpled slip of paper from the director's palm.
Unfolding it, it showed the index number 2.
"You drew Team 2—Alex and Shen Jinghe's team."
"Alright."
Having just packed their gear and prepared to migrate, Shen Jingchuan and Shen Jinghe suddenly heard the sound of a helicopter overhead.
Both men knit their brows at the same time. Was someone else withdrawing, or being forced to leave due to physical health reasons again?
However, the two brothers quickly realized that the helicopter was actually landing right beside their camp.
