THE JOB OFFER
One week later......
Tinu's Pov
It's been one week, one week of nerve-wracking silence. Ever since we came back from the mall, Scar has been a shadow of herself. She just sits down moping around and staring into space. I mean she's no longer the bubbly and full of life Scar that I know, she's now like some sort of stranger. She looks so pale and she barely eats anything, she barely comes out of her room except when she wants to eat, which is rare these days. And Jade is not here to help because she had returned to Nigeria for work; unlike us, she's already working, I wish she was here to help. I can't even bring myself to tell Scar what Alex had told me, I mean that would completely crush her.
But I was going to take that mood from her, we're going shopping today whether she likes it or not because our graduation is in two days. It was enough that she didn't come for the sign-out and I just let her be because she needed more time but there was no way I was letting her miss her graduation which I'm pretty sure she would be taking the award as the best graduating student from her department, I mean she's such a smartass.
As I entered the room, she was on the bed as usual just staring into nothingness; "get up," I told her, not looking at her but going about arranging her messed up room for her.
"But I don't want to," she whined. I smiled, happy that my Scar was still there...
"You have to," I said looking pointedly at her with one hand on my waist, "we're graduating in two days and we're going shopping for that then we'll go to the spa and get our nails done"
She just looked at me like I'd grown an extra head. "Am I speaking Spanish?" I asked her "get up and get dressed." To my surprise, she did just that without me having to repeat myself. Smiling happily to myself, I pulled her out of the house.
On the day of graduation
Scar's Pov
I looked at myself in the mirror, I could barely recognise the person looking back at me. I've never been one to use make-up or dress up all fancy but I was grateful to Tinu for pulling me out of the house that day because I liked what I saw. I was putting on yellow dress pants with a white armless top tucked into the pants and a yellow jacket to match, and I was on white heels. My hair was done into a long ponytail and my make-up was exquisite… It was done by Tinu, of course. My nails were polished a light shade of pink which I didn't need to fix because my nails were naturally long. Above all, I looked gorgeous. Tinu rushed into the room telling me that our uber was waiting and I could only but gape at her. She was looking as gorgeous as ever. The red gown she wore contrasted her fair skin, a silver pair of heels and earrings to match, she also had a silver necklace on.
"you look beautiful," I told her. She smiled, and accompanied it with a thank you, complimenting me that I looked gorgeous too. Hearing the honk, we rushed downstairs and entered the car.
Our graduation was to be held at the school's multi-purpose hall. It was a large room with plenty of space and it was filled to the edge with parents and well-wishers. I turned when I heard my name and I saw my parents and my younger twin sisters. I never knew they'd make it; I was so excited, I hugged my mum and dad then my little sisters. They looked so beautiful and I've missed them a lot.
Then my dad asked about Alex. I hadn't gotten the time to tell them that we were not together anymore so I just told him we broke up. My dad looked at me with surprise written all over his face, and my mum asked about what happened. In an attempt to avoid answering, I told her I would get back to her later as I needed to get my graduation gown and I left.
Looking around, I saw Tinu with her parents, and Jade too. I didn't know that she'd be able to make it because she left for Nigeria just a few days ago.
I greeted Tinu's parents and they asked me how I was doing and about my parents. I pointed towards my mom and dad, informing Tinu's parents about their location. They walked towards the area I pointed to, to say Hi to my parents.
Once they left, I hugged Jade. "You look hot GIRL!" she said to me, making me turn around for her. I just laughed at her antics and thought to myself, 'If I was a dude or into girls, I'd definitely tap that she said that looking at me'
I laughed and shook my head. I was about to reply to Jade when the vice-chancellor, Mr Peters, asked all graduating students to take their seats up front according to their department. "See you later girls," Jade shoved Tinu and me and went to sit down.
The graduation commenced with the National Anthem of both Benin and Nigeria, and then the school's anthem. The occasion continued with a host of other activities which I didn't really pay attention to. I was yet to see Alex and I was grateful to God for that because I didn't know if I was ready to face him yet. Hell, I didn't even know what I was going to say to him if and when I saw him so I was silently praying to God that I don't. It was now time for the best graduating student of each department to be called on and awarded. One thing with my school was that the best graduating student was offered a job at any of the Holloway companies depending on your course and after a year of internship. After that, the company would decide to either retain you or not.
When it got to my department, my name was called. I really was already expecting it, not as if I was a nerd or something, I just liked my course because it was my passion and what I've always wanted to do, so I try to put my everything into it. My parents were so proud and glowed with joy. I looked into the crowd and saw Jade shouting and clapping. Tinu's parents too were equally excited. I was given a job at Holloway's firm in Lagos Island and I was excited to be somewhere new. Though I was not happy to be away from my parents, I have lived all my life in Abuja and I felt that I needed a change of environment, plus Jade and Tinu both stayed in Lagos so it'll be so much fun!
After the graduation ceremony, I rushed to find my parents and they hugged me and told me how proud they were of me. My sisters were equally excited although they weren't happy that I wouldn't be going home with them. They were happy for me. I loved the way my parents looked at me with pride shining in their eyes. I was suddenly hugged from behind and I knew it was Tinu. I turned around and boy, I was right.
She was beaming like a child and finally said, "I'm so proud of you Scar." I knew she was more excited about the fact that I would be spending a year with her in Lagos. That naughty girl…
Tinu studied accounting and would be working at her father's company when we returned to Nigeria. Like I said earlier, her parents were rich, so don't be surprised.
After the occasion, my parents went to sleep in a hotel they had booked. Tinu's father had informed us that we'd all be returning to Lagos in his private jet and then from there, my parents would return to Abuja. My sisters were so excited.
I heard a familiar voice call my name and I turned around to meet Alex's eyes. Jade was already storming forward with a look of rage on her face. I just told her to relax because I wanted to hear what he had to say. Thankfully, my parents had already returned to their hotel. When I got to his front, I stood and looked at him trying to be brave. To be honest, I just felt like hugging him and crying on him, asking him what I did wrong.
After a minute of awkward silence, he broke it with a "congratulations" and I just completely lost it. "Congratulations, really?! That's what you want to tell me now, congratulations?!" I said throwing my hand up in frustration.
"What do you want me to say?!" he exclaimed back. I just stared at him.
"How about an explanation huh? How about you give me an explanation." He looked at me then ran his hands through his hair; it was at that moment I noticed how different he looked compared to before.
"I'm sorry, okay," he said looking at me, "I didn't mean to hurt you Scar. It wasn't meant to end like this but it did and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get drunk and sleep with her and get her pregnant okay?"
I looked at him, surprise evident on my face. "What? Do you mean she's pregnant? How much of a fool can you be Alex, I loved you, cherished you, I fucking lost my virginity to you! I was with you for five years and then you go and impregnate another woman? Seriously?!"
"I was drunk okay, I didn't mean to!" he said, yelling. At this point, we were already gaining people's attention but I couldn't care less. "stop saying you didn't mean to," I said equally raising my voice; "you don't just trip and let your dick into some random girls pussy okay?!"
He had barely said anything when Jade and Tinu came to calm me down. I just looked at Alex, shaking my head and laughing bitterly, "I hope you have a great life, Alex…"
When we got home I was already a crying mess, my make up was ruined and my eyes were puffy from excess crying. How did I find myself in this mess?
"Thank God you're coming with us," Jade said, sighing while patting my back as I placed my head on her lap. We have to help you get over this bastard, she said, and those were the last words I heard before sleep consumed me...
Phew... This chapter was draining but I still liked every bit of it. Let me know your thoughts on it! Love you xoxo 😘
