Her mouth felt parched. She shifted slightly, trying to sit up. Just then, a woman in her twenties, dressed in traditional attire, entered the room. Seeing Qingqiao awake, she exclaimed joyfully, "Young Miss, you're awake! I'll go inform the Mistress!"

As the woman opened the door, Qingqiao glimpsed a captivating landscape outside. The ground was covered in pristine white snow, with artificial hills and a small pond, all veiled in a silver sheen. Occasionally, maids walked by, their footsteps and conversations barely audible. It was evident that this was a residence of affluence.

Today, the Ye family was in a flurry of activity. News that the young lady from the capital had awakened spread like wildfire throughout the manor.

It was fortunate that the Second Master had been stationed near a cliff by the river to fight off bandits. Also good was the middle-aged servant who had managed to escape the bandit chase and, in doing so, encountered the Second Master. It was through these circumstances that Qingqiao's life was spared. Otherwise, even if she had managed to cross over from another world, it would have been a dead-end for her.

"My poor child!" Hearing the voice, Qingqiao looked up to see an elegant elderly lady dressed in regal attire approaching her bedside. She was supported by a maid on one side and dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief held in her other hand.

Blinking her large eyes, Qingqiao took in the unfamiliar old woman before her. Despite her advanced age and some white hair, her dignified bearing and vitality were unmistakable.

The young woman at her side said, "Young Miss, this is your maternal grandmother."

"Maternal grandmother?"

"Yes, my dear, I am your maternal grandmother. Drink this medicine first; we've had to reheat it several times. The doctor said to drink it as soon as you woke up. It will help dissipate the bruises from the impact on your body and also remove the coldness within you. Fortunately, your second uncle found you in time, otherwise..." She paused, wiping away a tear with her handkerchief.

"Don't worry, Mistress. Young Miss is awake now, isn't she? As long as she's awake, she'll be fine. That's what the doctor said," the young woman beside her quickly comforted.

A maid in a teal jacket brought over a bowl of medicine from the table. The old Mistress took it and lovingly spoon-fed her precious granddaughter.

"If it weren't for the letter your mother sent in advance, informing us of your arrival and giving us an approximate date, your second uncle wouldn't have been prepared. This early preparation is what saved you. But it's puzzling how you encountered trouble before reaching the bandit-infested area. Thank goodness for old Chen's family; their modest martial skills helped him evade capture and find your second uncle. Had he been a moment later, I can't bear to think..." The old Mistress continued, still visibly shaken by the ordeal.

The young woman by her side, also concerned, stepped in to reassure her: "Mistress, Young Miss is still a child; she won't understand all this. Talking about it will only make her more afraid. The important thing is that she's safe now."

Yun Qingqiao had pieced it all together; the original owner of her body had been the victim of a nefarious plot. Recalling her mother's instructions before she set out on her journey, she reassured her grandmother, "Maternal Grandmother, please don't worry. I'm fine now. Unfortunately, the maids and the elderly nanny who accompanied me were killed by the attackers. Many others fled. In the chaos, the carriage somehow plunged off a cliff, and I lost consciousness. The villains took all my belongings, but thankfully, they didn't find the jade pendant or the letter my mother gave me. She had sewn them into the lining of my dress. Maternal Grandmother, my mother said she has important messages for both you and Grandfather, all written in that letter. She also included a jade pendant she's worn since childhood; she said you'll understand once you see it."

After Yun Qingqiao finished the medicine, a maid in an orange jacket immediately brought her some mouthwash and a few honeyed dates. Being attended to by so many people just for taking medication, it was clear that her maternal grandparents' household was not merely affluent but extraordinarily so. Judging by her grandmother's distinguished aura, she must be an exceptional woman.
