A young woman approached Wang Lin, casting a disdainful gaze upon him.

"Let's go!"

"I don't know what my dad is thinking, trying to set me up with you."

"Just look at the abyss between us."

Faced with Yun Xiangxiang's mockery, the Wang Lin of the past would have been deeply ashamed and unable to meet her gaze. However, he merely smiled at Yun Xiangxiang and calmly responded, "Actually, I have no intention of being with you."

Wang Lin's words left Yun Xiangxiang momentarily stunned. This was the first time she had seen Wang Lin take such a stance.

In the past, whenever Wang Lin visited her family, he would keep his head down and avoid direct eye contact, even stumbling over his words. But today, Wang Lin looked at her confidently, speaking with conviction, as if he were a completely different person.

Wang Lin didn't notice this subtle change, but Yun Xiangxiang did.

Curiosity piqued, she continued to scrutinize Wang Lin, leaving him perplexed. "Do I have something on my face? Why are you staring at me like that?"

"Well, nothing might be on your face, but something seems... off."

"Never mind, let's go home. My dad is still waiting." Yun Xiangxiang, appearing entirely bewildered, reluctantly returned to the car.

Wang Lin naturally took the front passenger seat and closed his eyes, continuing to practice the cultivation technique he had in mind.

Yun Xiangxiang started the car, which roared to life as they set off.

Soon, they arrived at a gated villa community and parked in front of one of the houses.

"We're here. Let's get out," Yun Xiangxiang said.

They entered the villa, where four people were in the living room. Aside from Yun Guangwei and his son Yun Junhui, there were two middle-aged couples. Wang Lin's aunt, Wang Wanfeng, was busy in the kitchen preparing dinner.

"Haha, Wang, you're here. Have a seat," Yun Guangwei exclaimed, pulling Wang Lin to sit beside him.

"Let me introduce you. This is Mr. Yang from the Yang family and his wife, Mrs. Chu," Yun Guangwei gestured toward the middle-aged couple.

Upon hearing the Yang family name, a hint of coldness flashed in Wang Lin's eyes, but he quickly concealed it. Yang Yang was the son of Yang Zhong, the head of the Yang family, and one of the individuals responsible for severely injuring Wang Lin. He hadn't expected to encounter someone from the Yang family here.

After the introductions, Yun Guangwei continued, "This is my nephew, Wang Lin. When he joins your company, I hope you'll look after him."

"Hehe, Brother Yun, you're joking..." Yang Qing laughed. "Let's stick to what we discussed earlier. Let him come for an interview at our company tomorrow."

"Very well, that's settled then," Yun Guangwei replied with a smile.

"Dinner's ready, let's eat and chat," Wang Lin's aunt said as she brought the dishes out of the kitchen.

After three rounds of drinks and five food courses, everyone left the table. Yu Guangwei pulled Wang Lin aside and began to speak.

"Wang, there's something I've been meaning to tell you but never found the right opportunity."

"Today, while we have this chance, let's have an honest conversation."

"When you were younger, some things weren't appropriate to discuss. But now you're 25, and it's time you knew the truth. I can't let you remain in the dark any longer."

Taking courage from the alcohol, Yu Guangwei continued, "You know about my relationship with your father. We were comrades in arms, as close as brothers. But there's something you don't know: your father saved my life."

"Had it not been for him taking a bullet for me during a covert mission, he wouldn't have passed away so young. And your mother wouldn't have left you alone to go and find the person who framed your father. To this day, her fate remains unknown."

Yu Guangwei's revelation shook Wang Lin to the core. He had only just discovered that his father died saving Yu Guangwei, not in a car accident, as the police had told him. Moreover, his mother could still be alive!

"Uncle Yu, I thought my parents died in a car accident? Why is what the police told me different from what you're saying?"

"Because of your father's special status, the authorities could only list 'accidental death' as the cause."

"As for your mother, she acted on her own, disappeared, and so, like your father, her death was also categorized as a car accident," Yu Guangwei explained.

Wang Lin had always believed that his parents died in a car accident. If Yu Guangwei hadn't spilled the beans while intoxicated, Wang Lin might have gone his entire life without knowing this hidden truth.

Now, it seemed that his mother might still be alive!

"The matter of your parents has burdened my conscience for years. I've done covert investigation but only uncovered a few clues," Yu Guangwei said.

"The failure of that mission years ago was due to a leak. It led to your father's death and your mother's disappearance."

"The leak likely came from the Wang family in the capital," Yu Guangwei added, lowering his voice as he mentioned the Wang family, as though afraid.

"Listen, Wang, I know you're eager to uncover the truth, but you're not yet strong enough."

"I'm telling you all this not to spur you into immediate revenge but to motivate you to better yourself. Don't waste your life away in that small company."

"You have no future there. I've found you a position in a much larger firm. I've already spoken to Yang Qing, and you can start there tomorrow."

"Work there for a year, and then I'll use my connections to get you into the Hong Group. From there, you can move on to the capital," Yu Guangwei advised.

"Uncle, thank you!" Wang Lin said earnestly. "I know what to do now!"

Besides seeking revenge on Qin Xue and Yang Yang, he was now desperate to uncover the truth about what happened years ago, as well as to find out what became of his mother.

"That's the spirit. I have to travel tomorrow, so I won't join you for drinks anymore," Yu Guangwei said.

Wang Wanfeng helped Yu Guangwei back to his room. As they reached the door, Yu Guangwei turned and added, "By the way, the Hong family sent an invitation this morning. Old Master Hong's granddaughter is having her coming-of-age ball in a few days. I'll have Xiangxiang take you along. It's a good opportunity to get acquainted with the family."

And with that, they parted ways.
