Jiang Ying was halfway through her shower when she suddenly remembered she had forgotten to bring a change of clothes.
She leaned her slender waist against the wall and exhaled a breath into the steam-filled air.
The coldness of the tiled wall contrasted sharply with the heat from the shower, making her shiver involuntarily.
After standing by the wall for about half a minute, she wrapped a towel around her chest, walked to the door, and knocked twice, her voice calm, “Zhou Yi, are you outside?”
After speaking, there was no response from outside the door. She added, “Zhou Yi, I forgot to bring my clothes. Could you help me get them?”
Still, no response.
Jiang Ying opened the door just a crack. Upon seeing Zhou Yi asleep on the sofa, she quietly sighed in relief. Barefoot, she walked over to the wardrobe, took out a nightdress, and turned back into the bathroom.
Just as the bathroom door closed, Zhou Yi opened his eyes. His gaze landed right on her pale, delicate ankles.

When Jiang Ying emerged in her nightdress, she looked up to see Zhou Yi lying on the sofa, casually scrolling on his phone.
She frowned. “You weren’t asleep?”
Zhou Yi lifted his eyelids, smirking mischievously. “What?”
Jiang Ying took a deep breath. “Since you were clearly awake, why didn’t you respond when I called you earlier?”
Zhou Yi rested his phone-holding hand on his chin and lied without batting an eye, “Did you?”
Jiang Ying: “…”
Left speechless by his attitude, Jiang Ying stared at him for a moment, then turned and climbed into bed.
After lying down, she dimmed the room light to a soft glow and started browsing her phone, ready to drift off.
Just as she began to feel sleepy, Zhou Yi’s phone rang.
Without concern, he answered casually, his voice deep and magnetic, “Hello?”
The room was so quiet that the flirtatious voice of the woman on the line was crystal clear: “Ah Yi, come out and play with me!”
Zhou Yi grinned lazily. “Miss me?”
The woman pouted, “Ugh, stop it! Are you coming out or not?!”
His tone dropped slightly. “Not coming. I’m at the old house tonight.”
Then he added, “With my wife.”
There was a pause on the other end, followed by the sound of the woman angrily hanging up.
As the call ended and the dial tone echoed, Zhou Yi clicked his tongue.
Right then, Jiang Ying’s phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID: Guan Lei.
She was tempted to hang up.
Guan Lei—Zhou Yi’s so-called childhood sweetheart.
If it hadn’t been for that accident, the title of “Mrs. Zhou” probably would’ve gone to her.
Jiang Ying was going to let the call time out, but Guan Lei persistently called again and again.
She eventually picked up, her voice cool and composed. “Hello, Miss Guan.”
As soon as Guan Lei heard Jiang Ying’s voice, she snapped, “You did this on purpose, didn’t you? You knew today was my birthday and still dragged Ah Yi to the old house!”
Jiang Ying: “…”
Guan Lei wouldn’t let up. “Tell Ah Yi to come out right now!”
Jiang Ying replied calmly, “Sorry, I can’t do that.”
Guan Lei grew angrier. “Jiang Ying, don’t push it! You—”
Before Guan Lei could finish, Jiang Ying’s phone was snatched away.
She looked up to see Zhou Yi standing by her bed, shirt collar slightly open, half his shirt tucked into his dark suit trousers.
“Stop being unreasonable,” he said coldly into the phone.
Guan Lei sniffled. “It’s my birthday…”
Zhou Yi’s eyes glanced over Jiang Ying’s porcelain-like shoulder. His gaze darkened slightly. “Happy birthday.”
