Chapter 9
Night.
Zhuang Jiang leaned her head against Tang Qing’s lap, taking the initiative to talk about Huo Xiang. "She is Huo Xiang, the ace manager of Empire Entertainment..."
Her voice was light and indifferent. "But once, she was nothing more than an assistant—"
"Yan Man’s assistant."
Tang Qing’s hand gently stroked her hair. He didn't speak upon hearing this, quietly listening as she continued.
Zhuang Jiang took his hand and looked up at him. "Qingqing, do you know who Yan Man is?"
Tang Qing’s hand paused. He looked at her and nodded.
"I’ve heard her name from my mother before," he said. "I’ve seen a few of her films... they were very good."
Yan Man—famed in her youth, only to fall to her death at the age of twenty-five.
She was a legend, and a tragedy.
Zhuang Jiang let out a soft "Mm." Still holding his hand, she spoke. "She was a legend—a legend of the entertainment industry. She didn't come from a professional acting background, but she became an overnight sensation the moment she debuted... Fame came too young, and the road was too smooth. It made her unable to endure even the slightest setback later on."
"She..."
Zhuang Jiang paused for a moment before speaking again. "She was a great actress, but she was never a good mother."
Tang Qing looked at her. He said nothing, but his hand tightened slightly around her.
Sensing his movement, Zhuang Jiang rested her hand on his arm and gave it a gentle pat. "I’m fine."
"I never had any expectations of her, so there is no disappointment to speak of."
How could there be no expectations? How could there be no disappointment?
Tang Qing let out a sigh. He pulled her close into his embrace, pressing his forehead against hers.
His Jiangjiang...
In the past he knew nothing about, what kind of life had she truly lived?
It took a moment before Zhuang Jiang reached out to wrap her arms around his waist...
She buried her face in Tang Qing’s chest.
Under the warm glow of the lights, the two held each other.
No words were spoken, yet silence was enough.
"Qingqing, you don't need to be sad."
Zhuang Jiang cupped his face, leaning her forehead against his. "Though I have no father or mother, I have the best grandparents in the world."
She smiled, a genuine and warm expression.
Then, leaning back into his arms, she said, "Qingqing, tell me about your family..."
"I imagine Qingqing’s family must be very warm."
Tang Qing rested his hand on her waist and his chin atop her head. Hearing this, he let out a soft chuckle. "My father is a hospital professor, and my mother is a university professor... they were very strict with me from a young age. I also have a younger sister. She’s three years younger than us and has been a little troublemaker her whole life."
"When you meet her, you must help me keep her in line."
Zhuang Jiang looked up and gave him a playful glare, her eyes shimmering with an alluring charm. "Where is the logic in that? Besides, if I try to handle her, will she even listen?"
Seeing that look in her eyes, Tang Qing felt his heart race.
He leaned down, lightly nipping her earlobe. "As long as Jiangjiang uses the same skills she uses to handle me, my sister will surely be incredibly obedient."
Zhuang Jiang reached out to pinch his waist, but he immediately pinned her down to the floor.
Tang Qing caught her mischievous hand, kissed her palm, and then looked at her with a smile. "Jiangjiang is being naughty."
Zhuang Jiang was momentarily stunned, then she arched an eyebrow. "And what do you plan to do about it?"
"I plan to..."
Tang Qing gave a soft smile and leaned in to kiss her lips. His hand moved to her waist, gently kneading the skin. "Does Jiangjiang like this?"
Zhuang Jiang chuckled, cupped his face, and deepened the kiss.
By the time they broke apart to catch their breath...
Zhuang Jiang wiped the corner of his mouth, whispering breathlessly into his ear, "I like this very much."
Tang Qing didn't say a word. Holding her waist, he flipped their positions.
With one hand on her waist and the other tilting her chin, he approached her with an aggressive intensity... and kissed her lips again.
Zhuang Jiang was an excellent teacher, and Tang Qing was a gifted student.
Before long, Tang Qing had mastered the technique...
When she tried to retreat, he pressed the attack.
When she tried to take the lead, he held her waist and deepened the kiss.
By the time they regained their senses—
Tang Qing’s clothes were half-undone, revealing a lean yet powerful chest.
Zhuang Jiang’s clothes had been pushed up to her waist, and Tang Qing’s slender hand was still lingering beneath, causing mischief.
Tang Qing froze. Just as he was about to withdraw his hand, his thumb brushed over a peak, eliciting a soft moan from Zhuang Jiang... She caught his hand and gave him a pointed look. "You want to run after bullying me?"
"Jiangjiang..."
"I..."
Tang Qing’s face flushed as red as a sunset, and his words stumbled, completely lacking his previous dominant aggression.
Zhuang Jiang looked at him and leaned into his chest, laughing so hard she trembled. "Silly boy," she called him.
Then, she whispered another sentence into his ear: "Silly boy, I like it. I like it—"
"To the extreme."
Tang Qing breathed a sigh of relief and rested his head on her shoulder. As long as Jiangjiang wasn't angry with him... he had been so afraid she would be upset, so afraid she would think he was a scoundrel.
Fortunately, he had overthought it. His Jiangjiang had never once blamed him.
Tang Qing closed his eyes and pressed a reverent kiss to her forehead, his voice low and tender...
As he called her name: "Jiangjiang."
Zhuang Jiang sat cross-legged. On the television, the Golden Rooster Awards were being broadcast live.
On the other side of the sofa...
Lay the script Auntie Huo had left for her.
She lowered her head, her fingertips grazing the characters on the cover.
Even after all these years, she still remembered...
The feeling of seeing a movie she starred in appear on the big screen.
Did she really dislike it?
Zhuang Jiang lowered her gaze. She liked it.
When Tang Qing came out carrying a plate of fruit, this was the scene he found—
His Jiangjiang sitting cross-legged, script in hand, staring fixedly at the television.
Tang Qing followed her gaze to the awards ceremony on the screen. He let out a silent sigh in his heart, but his face remained smiling... He walked over to the sofa and said softly, "Jiangjiang, time for some fruit."
Zhuang Jiang snapped back to reality, looked up, and smiled.
She took the fork, picked up a piece of mango, and held it to his lips. "Qingqing, you eat first."
Tang Qing swallowed it with a smile and sat down beside her.
He took the fork, picked up another piece, and held it to her lips. "Jiangjiang, you too."
Zhuang Jiang looked at the piece of mango and smiled softly.
Then, she tucked a stray hair behind her ear before taking the mango from his hand.
"Jiangjiang, do you like acting?"
Hearing his question, Zhuang Jiang paused for a moment. She then looked up at him and spoke the truth. "I thought I would hate it, but I’ve realized now... Qingqing, I do like it."
"Then go for it."
Tang Qing set down the fork. He cradled the back of her head with his hand and lightly touched his forehead to hers. "Since you like it, then do it."
"Jiangjiang, remember—"
"Don't do it for others. Do it only for yourself."
Zhuang Jiang looked at him, a dazed expression on her face.
Not for Yan Man?
Not for anyone else?
Only for herself?
