Ye Renyu clarified Yun Qingqiao's confusion: "Children from low-income families often don't have formal names. They usually get casual names unless they attend school, join the military, or become officials. Sister, you're more educated than I am; you should name them."
"What are your family surnames?" Yun Qingqiao asked while instructing Youzhu and Jingyu to bring ink, brushes, and paper and having Chun Nan prepare the inkstone.
Youzhu's brother respectfully answered, "Miss, our family name is Bai, and their family name is Zhuang."
"Since you two are like brothers, then Youzhu's brother will be named Bai Ziyang, and Jingyu's brother will be named Zhuang Zichen. Both names contain the character 'Zi.' I'll write them down for you. You can start practicing your names, and you can use them when you join the army." No sooner had Yun Qingqiao finished speaking than the names were written and handed over to them by Chun Nan.
"Thank you for bestowing names upon us, Miss. Ziyang and Zichen thank Miss and the Seventh Young Master!" Both Bai Ziyang and Zhuang Zichen knelt in unison to show their thanks.
