CHAPTER 24 - ENTERING THE VALLEY OF THE DIVINE PHYSICIAN
On the day she was granted permission to enter the valley of the Divine Physician, Yun Qingqiao woke up early. Escorted by guards assigned by the old Marquis Ye, she and her attendants reached the mountain where the valley was situated.
As they ascended, the towering peaks were adorned with red maple leaves, yellow fallen leaves, and green pine needles, all complemented by plum blossoms. The entire mountain range appeared enchantingly beautiful. Distant mountains became faint silhouettes through the mist.
Looking down, clouds enveloped the area; looking up, peaks jutted out from the fog like lotuses rising from water. The view confirmed the valley's reputation for breathtaking scenery.
Upon reaching the mountaintop, a young herbalist greeted them and conveyed the Divine Physician's instructions: the escorts could not proceed into the valley. Following these directions, the men sent by Marquis Ye left.
Then, guided by the young herbalist, Yun Qingqiao and her attendants continued their descent to the Valley of the Divine Physician.
The setting sun cast its final glow over the mottled courtyard at the bottom of the valley, making it appear as though it were the dwelling of immortals, surrounded by wisps of ethereal smoke.

"Master, please accept your disciple's respects!"
Upon meeting the legendary Divine Physician, Yun Qingqiao brought her hands together in a gesture of respect, her face filled with sincerity. Just as she was about to kneel, she heard the old man say—
"Hold on, I haven't agreed to teach you medicine yet!"
Although the old man sported a white beard, it failed to conceal the rosy glow on his face. Coupled with his vibrant energy and bright eyes, he didn't appear old; instead, he exuded an aura of sage-like wisdom.
"Master, haven't you already discussed this with my grandfather?" Yun Qingqiao pouted, appearing puzzled.

"Yes, we discussed it, but I've changed my mind," the Divine Physician said.
He glanced at the people accompanying Yun Qingqiao, furrowed his brows, and smiled faintly.
"Here's the deal: I will travel to search for rare medicinal herbs. If you can live in the Valley of the Divine Physician for ten days to half a month without these two older maids and the young girl attending to you, I'll teach you medicine. If you continue to act like a spoiled princess, I won't be able to teach you, regardless of what I promised your grandfather."
Hearing this, one of the older maids, Madam Su, immediately voiced her concern:
"Divine Physician, could you kindly allow us to stay and serve the young lady? She's still so young and can't be without me."
The white-bearded Divine Physician looked at the distant scenery and closed his eyes as if he hadn't heard her.
Yun Qingqiao walked over to Madam Su, took her hand, and, with a reassuring expression, said,
"Madam Su, you and Chu Nan should go back first. Becoming a physician is my dream. Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself."
"But, young lady..." Madam Su hesitated, her face showing concern.

"No more discussion; I've made up my mind!" Yun Qingqiao's eyes revealed a determination and resolve beyond her years.
The white-bearded Divine Physician stroked his beard and gave an almost imperceptible nod. Turning to Madam Su and Chu Nan, he warned,
"Once you leave, do not disclose the location of the Valley of the Divine Physician to anyone, or your young lady's life will be in danger!"
Madam Su and Chu Nan immediately knelt, terrified, and assured him,
"Rest assured, Divine Physician, and don't worry, young lady. We would never dare!"
The Divine Physician waved his hand to signal a young apprentice to come over. After whispering instructions, the apprentice led Madam Su and Chu Nan away. The Divine Physician walked toward the medicine hall.
Yun Qingqiao watched as their figures disappeared into the Valley of the Divine Physician. After contemplating for a moment, she steeled herself, walked to the medicine hall, took a deep breath, and finally mustered the courage to ask,
"Master, why did you need to scare my people?"
