Yun Qingqiao observed that despite the mud smeared on his face, the young man's dignified attire and elegant manner were apparent. His sharp eyebrows met at the temples, and a prominent nose bridge sat under a set of eyes that glittered like the night sky.

She couldn't help but speculate: someone of his status must be targeted by enemies. Given his young age, those enemies were likely his parents' foes or perhaps due to some internal family strife. Such ills were all too common in this corrupt, feudal society.

After a moment of silence, she replied,

"I'm the ninth child in my family. You can call me Ninth Miss."

Her tone was neither distant nor overly familiar.

Not far away, Ye Renyu raised a water flask and called out,

"Sister, the water's here!"

"Seventh Brother, you go ahead and give him some water. He looks quite thirsty, but it's best to drink small amounts at regular intervals," Yun Qingqiao seemed to address her brother, but her words served as a caution to the rescued young man as well.

"Drinking too much water after severe dehydration can lead to acute gastric dilation and alter the body's salt balance, placing undue strain on the heart and kidneys. In severe cases, it could be life-threatening.

Seventh Brother, could you start a fire for me?" Yun Qingqiao further instructed her sibling.

She then squatted beside the rescued youth, opened a small bag she had been carrying, and revealed an assortment of oddly shaped small knives and needles of various sizes.

"This might hurt a bit, so you'll have to bear with it. I didn't bring any anesthetic, but if the pain becomes unbearable, you can bite down on a tree branch."

In perfect sync, Ye Renyu picked up a clean branch, broke it to a manageable size, and handed it to the young man, who silently accepted it.

Then, in a moment of silent understanding, the two young men watched Yun Qingqiao's every move intently.

As she rolled up her sleeves, skillfully cleaned the wound with water from the flask, and sterilized her small knife over the fire, the rescued youth caught sight of a floral birthmark on her right forearm. The soft pink hue was captivating.

While she carefully scraped away the dead skin from the wound, he let out a stifled groan. Yun Qingqiao offered a subtle, approving smile before turning to her brother,

"Seventh Brother, could you go gather some wild fruits? He needs to eat."

"Alright, but you owe me the prettiest sachet you can make!" Ye Renyu grinned. He never said no to his sister's requests.

"Deal, now go quickly," she urged.

Once her brother was out of sight, Yun Qingqiao put away her knife and took out a needle and thread.

"Now comes the crucial part; I need to stitch up your wound."

"Stitch up the wound?" The young man looked puzzled; such a practice was unheard of in these ancient times, where medical knowledge was limited.

"Stitches will help the wound heal faster than the rudimentary bandaging most physicians use," she explained.

"It will also minimize bleeding, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of complications like fever."

"Alright, I trust you!" The young man's eyes sparkled, radiant and brimming with an inexplicable, celestial light. Even the dust on his face couldn't dim its brilliance.

After Yun Qingqiao finished stitching the wound, she applied some herbal poultices, covered it with her handkerchief, and then wrapped the wound using a torn piece from the bottom of her robe. She clapped her hands together, satisfied.

"All done!"

"In gratitude, Ninth Miss!"

The young man unfastened a jade ornament from the hilt of his short sword and handed it to her.

"My mother made this. I hope you won't find it too simple."

Taking in the small tassel crafted from green and white jade, Yun Qingqiao smiled gently. Although the jade was small, it was the craftsmanship that stood out.

"It's beautiful, and I really like it. Thank you."
