CHAPTER 30 - MEETING HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME (1)
"You're probably right; my father has likely forgotten about me," Yun Qingqiao suddenly said, her voice tinged with melancholy. "My mother's health is poor, and my being near her would only cause her worry."
At that moment, Yun Qingqiao was unaware that her father was also thinking about her. He kept his concern and longing tucked away due to the estrangement years ago when he eloped with Ye Heying, leading to a relationship breakdown with the House of Dingnan.
"Sister, don't be sad. I was only joking earlier," Ye Renyu said, feeling somewhat awkward and uncertain about how to comfort her.
"I know. But listen, Seven-Brother, do you hear that strange noise?"
The siblings investigated and found a wooden stick wrapped with a cloth strip not far from them, indicating a hidden trap. As they approached, they realized someone was stuck in the trap and appeared in poor condition.
"Seven-Brother, your martial arts skills are better than mine. Quickly use your lightness skill to rescue him," Yun Qingqiao urged.
"I've just learned the basics of lightness skill. I can easily move myself up and down, but carrying someone else with me would be challenging," Ye Renyu hesitated.

Yun Qingqiao furrowed her brow. "What about using vines? Go down and tie a vine around him, and then we can both pull him up. Will that work?"
"It will!"
After much effort, the two managed to pull the injured man safely. They found him semi-conscious, his clothes soaked in blood. Upon closer examination, Yun Qingqiao discovered a knife wound on his abdomen. It was clear that immediate medical intervention was needed to stitch up the wound, stop the bleeding, and prevent infection. The man also needed hydration and nutrition to regain his strength.
Feeling his clothes being torn to access the wound, the pain jolted the injured young man awake. "Who are you?" His voice was hoarse, his lips cracked—a clear sign of dehydration and lack of nourishment.
"We're the ones who saved you," Ye Renyu replied, slightly annoyed, as he gently set the man against a tree for support.
As Yun Qingqiao reached to touch the man's forehead to check for fever, he grabbed her wrist with surprising strength. Ye Renyu quickly pried the man's hand away, saying, "Hey, no need to be ungrateful here!"
Feeling no signs of fever, Yun Qingqiao was relieved. His injury was not too severe and should heal quickly with prompt medical attention. Noticing his continued wariness, she calmly said, "This is my Seventh Brother, Ye Renyu. Rest assured, we mean you no harm. We found you while gathering herbs and pulled you out of the trap. You're injured and shouldn't move much. Allow me to treat your wounds."
"Do you know medicine?" the man asked, still suspicious.
Seeing the man's skepticism, Ye Renyu boasted proudly, "My sister has been renowned for her medical skills since she was six years old and has been practicing for three years. You're in safe hands!"
Yun Qingqiao noticed that the man's canteen was empty. She handed it to Ye Renyu, saying, "That's enough, my dear Seventh Brother. Go fetch some water for us."
Leaning against a tree, the rescued young man regained strength. It was then that he took a closer look at the girl who had saved him. She wore a light blue gauze dress embroidered with light blue peonies at the cuffs.
The hem was intricately stitched with silver thread, forming a pattern of medium-blue clouds resembling waves. Her long hair flowed over her shoulders, gathered at the top with a light blue silk ribbon.
A white jade hairpin shaped like a plum blossom adorned her hair, simple yet elegant. There was an ethereal quality to her, akin to a freshly bloomed plum blossom—unpretentious yet enchantingly beautiful.
His face, tense and guarded just moments ago, was now relaxed as he looked at Yun Qingqiao. "May I ask for your name, Miss?" he inquired, his demeanor surprisingly calm given the circumstances.
