CHAPTER 16 - UNVEILING MEDICAL SKILLS (PART THREE)
Yun Qingqiao raised an eyebrow and declared, "Ten taels, and I'll take the girl with me!"
Though she was petite, her tone stunned everyone present.
Some thought this wealthy young lady was kind-hearted, while others questioned the wisdom of spending ten taels of silver to save a dying girl. Still, others believed this was a mere display of extravagance by a wealthy young miss with money to burn.

Ye Renyu saw a different side of Yun Qingqiao that day; she was calm, collected, and sharp-minded. While rescuing the girl, her face radiated a luminous glow that stirred something within him, making his heart flutter.
The brothel madam sneered dismissively and said, "Well, that's great then—cash in one hand, goods in the other."
Upon returning to the Duke of Dingnan's residence, the elders were keen on questioning Ye Renyu about the situation.
Just as Ye Renyu was contemplating how to broach the subject appropriately, Yun Qingqiao, with a severe expression, spoke up first. "Grandparents, Uncle, please don't blame my seventh brother. It was my idea to save the girl and bring her back. The most pressing issue right now is to save her life."
Hearing Yun Qingqiao's desire to save the girl, everyone was taken aback.

Ye Hongde, puzzled, said, "Qingqiao, life is no trivial matter. Perhaps we should call a physician."
Yun Qingqiao replied earnestly, "Uncle, a physician may not necessarily be able to save her, but I can. Since I was the one who brought her here, it falls upon me to save her. Please, trust me."
All eyes then turned toward the old Duke, who shrugged his shoulders and said in a resigned tone, "Let her go ahead; it's my fault for spoiling her. If things don't work out, we can call a physician later."
The old Duke, a seasoned warrior from the battlefield, could tell at a glance that the girl's condition was so dire that even with a physician, there might be little hope of saving her. Since his beloved Qingqiao claimed she could help, he trusted her. She had already surprised him with her capabilities at a young age, almost like a little prodigy. On this matter, the old Duke had complete confidence in her.

"Please, grandparents and Uncle, trust me. This is a matter of life and death, and Qingqiao is serious about it. Also, I'd like to ask Aunt to prepare some things for me; I need to perform surgery," Yun Qingqiao spoke with seriousness and composure, not displaying her usual girlish demeanor.
"Surgery? What is surgery, little sister?" Ye Renyu asked, puzzled.
"There's no time to explain now. Once the surgery is done, I will clarify everything," Yun Qingqiao replied firmly. She entered a room adjacent to the hall where the young girl had been placed.
Before long, Ye Renyu's wife, Madam Wei, got all the tools and supplies Yun Qingqiao had requested.
After washing her hands thoroughly, Yun Qingqiao carefully examined the young girl's injuries. Fortunately, only one rib was broken and hadn't punctured any internal organs—a stroke of luck in an otherwise grim situation. There was no need for any major thoracic surgery, which, given the medical limitations of this ancient society, would have been a risk Yun Qingqiao was not entirely confident she could successfully undertake.

After stabilizing the girl's ribcage and applying a medicinal salve to promote blood circulation, Yun Qingqiao addressed her. "You must remain still and rest. Now, I need to suture your leg wound. The gash is deep—bone is visible—and if not stitched, the blood loss could be life-threatening. However, I don't have any anesthetics, so the suturing will be painful. Can you bear it?"
The young girl nodded, indicating her willingness to endure the pain.
Handing her a roll of gauze, Yun Qingqiao spoke softly, "If the pain becomes too much to bear, you can bite down on this. It's a better alternative than accidentally biting your tongue." Given the situation's urgency, there was no time to prepare an anesthetic; they would have to make do.
